We are situated 50m from the ferry pier, so you don’t need a car to visit us. Restaurant Salteriet is located 100m from us, and the local summer market, from which you can buy local fish and bread, is just 70m from us.
Rooms and cottages

Rooms
At Strandhugget’s main building, we have three rooms. Each room has two separate beds. In two of the rooms it is also possible to add an extra bed for an additional fee.
The accommodation prices are €78/night for one person, €114/night for two people, and €150/night for three people. The price includes bed linen, towels, and breakfast.
The rooms are located on the second floor of the building. All rooms have a sea view.
The breakfast room and toilet are located on the first floor of the main building. On the first floor you will also find a refrigerator, microwave, kettle, and tableware for guests’ use.
In the separate service building there are showers and two toilets. There is also a sauna where you can enjoy the sea view from the benches. The sauna rental fee is €20/1 hour/2 persons, additional persons +€5/person. The showers are equipped with shampoo and washing products for guests’ use.
All facilities in the service building will be fully renovated during spring 2026.
Reservations can always be cancelled free of charge up to 7 days before arrival.

Cottages
On our property there are three small cottages. Two of them are two-room cottages. Each room has its own entrance from a shared terrace. Each cottage room accommodates two guests. In addition, there is one one-room cottage with accommodation for two people. All cottages have bunk beds and electric heating.
The accommodation price is €105/night for two people and €74/night for one person. The cottage price includes bed linen, towels, and breakfast.
Outside the cottages there is outdoor furniture where you can enjoy the sea view from early morning until late evening.
In the nearby separate service building there are showers and two toilets. There is also a sauna where you can enjoy the sea view from the benches. The sauna rental fee is €20/1 hour/2 persons, additional persons +€5/person. The showers are equipped with shampoo and washing products for guests’ use.

Accommodation
We offer accommodation services next to the Sottunga harbour. The property consists of the main building and three small cottages in the yard. In the main building there are 3 rooms for 2-3 persons. All rooms are located upstairs.
The washing and toilet facilities are located in a separate building, which we will fully renovate during spring 2026.
On the first floor of the main building there is a breakfast room and a toilet. There is also a refrigerator, microwave, kettle, and tableware available for guests’ use.
Our accommodation price always includes breakfast, bed linen, and a towel. The washing facilities are equipped with shampoo and cleaning products for guests’ use.

Breakfast
Breakfast is always included in the accommodation price with us. We serve it buffet-style in the breakfast room of the main building. Breakfast is available every day from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
And no worries! If your journey continues before 8 a.m., we will happily pack a tasty takeaway breakfast for you.
We believe that less is more when it comes to breakfast – quality over quantity. Our breakfast table features, in our opinion, the best Åland ingredients. We also offer lovingly homemade bread rolls, sweet treats, and slow-cooked porridge.
The availability of ingredients on an island is not as easy or fast as on the mainland. Please remember to inform us of any dietary requirements well in advance so that we can serve you in the best possible way.
Guests who are not staying overnight are also welcome for breakfast. Please make your reservation the day before.

Our story
Strandhugget BnB is a passion project for Tea and Henry Johansson. Henry has his roots on the island, and over the years Tea has fallen in love with Sottunga and its people. “We think that Sottunga is something that you just need to experience for yourself. Words are not enough to explain how special it is.” Strandhugget has been closed down for few years. It will be re-opened for summer 2024 to give an opportunity for visitors to stay over and enjoy our beautiful island.
Good to know
Arrival
Arrival to Sottunga is always by ferry unless you have a boat of your own. You can arrive to our island from two different directions. If you arrive from the mainland Åland direction, you will need to get to Långnäs first. There is a ferry connection from Långnäs which takes about an hour and 15 minutes to Sottunga. From the direction of mainland Finland you will need to drive to Galtby in Korppoo from where it takes about 4-5 hours by ferry to Sottunga, depending on date and departure time. It takes about 30 minutes by car from Mariehamn to Långnäs and about 3,5 hours by car from Helsinki to Galtby. Ferries are free of charge for passangers unless you have a car. The easiest way to book ferry tickets is to call Ålandstrafiken customer service at +358 18 25600. You can also ask us for advice. It can be a bit tricky to find the right connections to get to Sottunga when you arrange it for the first time.
Shops
Sottunga Andelshandel is located 3 km from Strandhugget. There are free of charge bicycles on the island that are perfect for shopping. There is a good selection of items in the store, but should you want to make sure that your must-have item is available, call the store personnel at +358 1855127. They will make sure that things you need are available.
To eat
Restaurant Salteriet is located less than 100m from Strandhugget. Salteriet is widely know for their great food, service and the location has to be one of the most beautiful spots in Åland.
Travelling by bike
Sottunga is a perfect stay during a biking trip or you could use Stranhugget as a base for getting to know other surrounding island communities. For detailed advice just get in touch with us and we will help you.
Summer market
During the summer months there is an active summer market. You can buy locally sourced and made bread, fish, strawberries and crafts. The market is open during the afternoons.
Golf
There are 3 different golf courses on the main island of Åland. You will have plenty of time for a round of golf by taking the morning ferry from Sottunga to main island. Return would be done by some of the afternoon ferries.
Mid summer celebration
Mid summer celebration at Sottunga is a truly unique event. Preparing the decorations for the midsummer pole together with local people, raising the pole with Sottunga inhabitants using nothing but sheer muscle power, etc. A day to remember f or a long time!
Parking and charging of electric vehicles
No problem with parking and we will arrange charging for your vehicles.
To see and to do
The pace of living is slow at Sottunga. We have an 18-hole frisbee golf course of international standards. It is a full morning/afternoon activity if you do the whole course. Apart from that, you can do hikes, swim or just relax as our guest. It is easy to find a quiet spot by the sea and read a book or maybe just enjoy the view.
Island Hopping
Sottunga and Strandhugget are an excellent base for island hopping. Contact us for more details.
Church, school, Skage, yoga, fishing and plenty of other things
We have a beautiful church on our island. The school playground offers activities for children. Skage is a beautiful fishermen’s harbour and a picnic spot. We have a few yoga mats for our guests to borrow. Bring your fishing gear with you and try to catch a fish. Get in touch if you need more information.
Rental of SUP boards
We have 2 SUP boards that we rent for our guests. It is a great way to explore the islands close to Sottunga or just enjoy a summer day in the archipelago. Prices 20€/2 hours or 40€/full day. Life vest is included in the price
Rental of bicycles
We have 4 bicycles available to rent for day trips to other islands. The bikes are serviced vintage models that are comfortable to ride. They are equipped with rear racks for side bags. The rental price is €30 per day for the first day and €20 per day for subsequent days. Bicycles are only available to our guests.
Rental of SUP boards
We have 2 SUP boards that we rent for our guests. It is a great way to explore the islands close to Sottunga or just enjoy a summer day in the archipelago. Prices 20€/2 hours or 40€/full day. Life vest is included in the price

Strandhugget on the map- how to find us?
There are no street names or numbers used at Sottunga, but is quite easy to find us. We are located just 40 meters from the pier used by the arcrpelago ferry that brings all people to our island that don´t have a boat of their own.
